European University Championships and Games

With the founding of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) in 1999, European university competitions were launched. In now 20 different sports, the EUSA is the organizer of European University Championships and Games. As a rule, the European championships are organized by the national university sports associations in cooperation with local universities.
There are two different types of European competitions. European University Games (EUSA Games) are held in the years with a straight year. The EUSA Games are a large multi-sport event, in which the competitions in the various sports are all carried out at the same time at the same place similar to e.g. the Olympic Games. In the odd-numbered years the title competitions in the various sports are played independently of one another at different locations as European University Championships (EUC).
The qualification of the university teams and individual athletes takes place at the national university championships of the respective sport. The winner or the winner's team usually qualifies for the European competition of the following year. If students of the Ruhr University are qualified for the European Universities Championships or Games, they can rely on the organizational and financial support at the EUC or EUSA Games Participation. More information about european university competitions can be found under the following link on the pages of the german university sports association: EUC / EUSA Games
