Sport: Dancehall

At University Sports since:
winter semester 17

What fascinates me about my sport is...

I've been dancing since I was a kid and so at the age of 12 I started to get involved with Hip Hop as a subculture and as a "dance direction". For me, dance is the perfect symbiosis of athletic activity/body control and artistic expression. What I love about Hip Hop is not only the music, I find the versatile styles in Hip Hop and the cultural backgrounds fascinating. Hip Hop is rap, soul, funk, blues, beats. Hip Hop can be aggressive, Hip Hop can be funky and especially in Freestyle it is possible to create in dance, to lose yourself, to find yourself or just to let off steam.

What fascinates me about University Sports is...

I like the open and relaxed atmosphere. You get to know new people every semester, but, especially in the hip hop classes, a base of firmly rooted "regular dancers" also forms. We have become a small community and everyone is treated as equals. I have never experienced this in a dance school before. There is no competition in the classes, no one is looked at askance or laughed at! On the contrary: creative, crazy minds are just right here, and that's what fascinates me about the atmosphere that university sports offers.

When I'm not practicing my sport...

...I study social science in the last semester. Of course I have other hobbies and duties, but dancing and music already take a very big part of my life!

My motto is:

Rap is epic poetry, rap is diversity of any direction-and I love the whole range I don't like Jay or Nas, I like both and rap is sweaty standing in a club Fab 5 Freddy, Rock Steady Crew, Wu Tang, rap is soul music-you'll never be a good dancer if you don't love soul!
